Google have incorporated some very useful features in to this new social network and the following video is a quick introduction to the features included.
Hangouts
This feature has been extremely well received and allows up to 9 people to chat via video all at once. This can be friends, work colleagues or family and Google have already identified the potential by making this available on their own android mobile phone software. In addition a user can now host an online broadcast with this feature — recording a session and broadcasting it live for public access online. Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am will host the first “Hangout on Air” on Wednesday 21st September 2011.
“Hangouts should keep pace with how you socialize in the real-world, so today we’re launching it on the one device that’s always by your side: your mobile phone,” senior vice president of engineering Vic Gundotra said on the blog post.
Circles
This is a great feature and really provides a solution to the problem of sharing information on Facebook. The circles feature allows you to add a group of contacts based on a particular criteria, family, friends work colleagues, clients etc can all be added to a relevant circle and you can then only share information relevant to that circle. The problems with Facebook is all of your friends get to see all of your information, this feature is simple to set up and provides a great solution and never again will your boss see your drunken night’s out again!
From a marketing point of view this really allows you to form tightly grouped circles of clients based on a detailed criteria, this I believe will be a major benefit over Facebook alone.
Instant Upload
Uploading videos and images couldn’t be easier. Everything is uploaded to your own private album and all you have to decide is who you want to see them.
Sparks
Tell sparks what you are into and it will allow you to share this with your friends, lose yourself in your passion and “nerd” out with your mates.
Huddle
Texting for the masses! Gets everyone in to a group chat by text either online or directly from your phone, never have to send multiple text updates to arrange that night again, just set up a huddle so everyone can the entire message thread on 1 screen.
I hope this provides enough information to get you started, If you are now itching to get cracking here is the link to set up your own account.
